I had a great time making knives with Duane Hanson last week. I forged three knives and a crooked knife and learned a lot along the way. Spending time with Duane is always fun and educational for me. He’s always got a bunch of interesting projects going, so in addition to whatever I’m there to do I always learn a lot more about a wide variety of things. I also enjoyed Duane and Sally’s hospitality and first-class cooking.
One day when we were done working we took a drive to help out a friend of Duane’s. On the way back Duane showed me the old world war 2 prisoner of war camp where Bob Wagg and Walter Lane lived when they were filming Dead River Rough Cut. The cabins were gone, but Walter Lane’s root cellar is still there. There’s also an old brick bake oven that the German’s built.
It was a great week and a great course. Highly recommended.
