In a few hours people arrive and we’ll begin the Wilderness Canoe Expedition Semester. The plan is to spend the first few days in camp planning and packing meals and covering a variety of expedition skills from efficient paddling to whitewater rescue, then head out on the river. We’re having an exceptionally dry summer in northern Maine, so our route options are limited and will differ from our original plan. Low water trips create fantastic learning opportunities with regard to poling and reading the river. Low water levels also concentrate the fish into fewer holes.
I’m excited to get out on the trail and leave the concerns of the world behind. It’s a gift to be able to step out of 2018 and into the timeless experience of life in the forest, where life is simple and full of pleasure.
