Winter Programs And Difficulty Finding Snowshoes in 2022-2023

I have heard from a few people coming on winter programs that it has been hard to find snowshoes this year. We’ve all been dealing with supply chain woes for a few years now, so it isn’t a surprise that these, too, are hard to source.

I have a bunch of military surplus magnesium-framed snowshoes that people can rent for their course. These are solid and rugged, and are much larger and built tougher than modern mountaineering snowshoes. They are not overly large, so if you weigh over 200 pounds you might posthole a bit, but they are a good option when few others are available. Rental for a week is $20.

These are common on ebay and other online retailers, so you could save the rental fees and buy a pair. Be sure they look like this:

    I have always had great luck finding good quality snowshoes at reasonable prices on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace.
