I read this article on the moving magnetic north pole this morning and I thought it would be interesting to anyone who uses a magnetic compass to navigate. I don’t know what the changes on local declination are as a result, but will be interested to find out. It seems that the older barehand navigation techniques are more relevant than ever based on the changing location of the magnetic pole. I’m not sure if the graphic (that I took from the article at ScienceAlert.com) accurately depicts the newly agreed upon location, but if it does it is a long way from where we traditionally teach the location to be. The bigger lesson here is that the only constant is change.
