The parking lot is empty, the people have gone, and all that’s left is the cleanup. Year 26 and long-term program number 67 are finished. And not a moment too soon, as there’s a bit of snow coming in tomorrow night. I’ve been going since the beginning of April, and now the season is finally completed. It was another great year, meeting some new friends and reconnecting with old ones, and now it’s time to sit back a bit, take stock of what worked and what didn’t, and chart a course forward.
Before such big and lofty things as this, there is cleanup, and alot of it. Managing the field school is something that takes a lot of time and effort, but with the exception of cleaning up after people and taking trash to the dump, it is labor of love.
This photo was taken on Churchill Lake on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway on a beautiful October morning, on our second to last trip of the semester.
