Finishing Winter Bushcraft Week, Preparing For Snowshoe Trip

We’re wrapping up week 1 of the Earth Skills Winter Program, and I’m getting all the gear assembled for our snowshoe trip next week.  We’ve had the coldest temperatures of the year so far, but it’s been a fun week anyway and we’ve covered a lot of ground.  Today I’m busy prepping and packing what we need for next week.  I’ve got our tent and stove ready to go, as well as toboggans and my personal kit (sleeping bag, axe, etc.).  Next is to get the food sorted and packed.

Winter trips are among my favorite times in the bush.  The quiet, the excellent tracking, and the ability to be comfortable in a season when others shun the outdoors are all factors.  Not having to worry about food spoiling is also a big bonus.  It’s going to be a great week.
