We had a great 40-mile trip on a nearby river over the past three days. The water was high and cold, the rapids were fast, and the fish were biting. I caught the native (not stocked) 13-inch trout above at one of our campsites, and it made for great eating after slow-roasting it next to the campfire. We saw a few patches of snow in shady spots, but for the most part the woods are now snow-free. I shot a bunch of video and will be putting them out when I get some time to edit. One of the guys took an unplanned swim in a rapid, but the camera had shut off just before so we don’t have any footage. Frustrating.
Tomorrow begins the Wilderness Canoe Expedition Semester, and we’ve got a full crew for it. So on the schedule for today is setting up solar panels, composting toilets, hand wash stations, etc., none of it glamorous but all of it necessary. I’m hoping to get the chores done early so as to get out fishing late in the day.
We’re planning to record a podcast tomorrow morning before students arrive and introduce our two new instructors. It’s been a while since we recorded one, so I’ll have a wire brush handy to knock the rust off of things.
