Last week we were out on the St. Croix river, which forms the border between the USA and Canada. We had a great week of high water, peak foliage, and warm water. It isn’t often that you get to swim every day of an October canoe trip, but we did. As we begin week 8, there are lots of practical exams to do, lots of academic work to complete and lots of crafts to finish before we head out on solos week 9.
In the photo I am paddling right at the top of Little Falls. The water was higher than I have ever seen it. Usually I pole this rapid on river left, but the water was high enough to run the ledges with a paddle on river right.
